What are some charitable causes that you support or would like to support?

Negative Population Growth

Sometimes, I would like to help them by reducing the current population by one or two people.

The Job Fair

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on March 29, 2007 by Budd Black

As an employer, why even go to a job fair, if you are not going to collect resumes.  "oh," you can apply online."  What! What!  The whole reason to come to a job fair is for face to face contact.  I got dressed up in my best duds and paid for parking downtown just to be told to check out the internet site for a list of oppenings and an online application.  This is on top of the selection of places there were pretty low.  I don't want a sales job, I don't have a degree in nursing, and I don't want to work at McDonalds.  I have a worthless English degree that doesn't convey the fact that you can train me to just about anything and train me quickly.

Is anyone hiring or know a place that is.

Do I Get My Money Back?

This years trip to Hollow Earth has been cancelled.  That really sucks because I was really looking forward to it.

John Edwards

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on March 28, 2007 by Budd Black

Says,"Don't vote for me because my wife has cancer!"  That is where all the soundbites stop, but there was more.  He then said, "Vote for me because your dead uncle wants you to, and, by the way, his name was Tim and he has some stock certificates in a safety deposit box at Bank of America on 1st street."

If we elect John Edwards president, then he will fight for dead suffrage.

It is Broken

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on March 27, 2007 by Budd Black

My wife broke her 5th metatarsal on Saturday night.  On Monday when the swelling still hadn't gone down, I took her to the ER.  The doctors said that my spitting and rubbing dirt on it did nothing to help heal her foot.  They said that my demands that she walk it off were ill founded as well.  She will be getting it casted tomorrow and will be out of work for what looks to be a month and a half.  "Temporary disability insurance, why would we want/need that.  Oh crap!"

They should have just cut it off and made her a cyborg.  Robocop was up and fighting crime the next day.  You can't tell me that he had some kind of mutant healing factor or those bullets wouldn't have hurt him so bad.

It is her right foot, so she can't drive, which means I am.  I have to do all the things I normally do plus drive her to appointments.  I thought about making her drive with her left foot but she just barely can do so with her right.  I guess she could have my 6 y/o work the pedals.  She can't really get up and down the stairs, which means I am carrying her or going to get any little thing that needs to be gotten.  This turns out to be multiple things and I end up making multiple trips.

My wife usually works evenings, which is great because we don't have to pay for daycare and I can do/watch whatever I want.  I can also rule my children with an iron fist without them running to their mother.  This is gone now.  I can feel the coupe de ta coming in which my rule as dictator is over.  I can see complaints coming about my watching TV, what I am watching on TV, or what I am reading.

I am being punished!  Yes me, not her.  The proof, her foot doesn't hurt unless one of the kids jumps on it or she puts weight on it.  They gave her pain meds anyway.  She gets to have a pain free, limited activity(work), sit on the couch 6 weeks off.  I on the other hand have to go to work, get the kids out of bed, act as a chauffuer, act as transportation/teleportation up and down stairs, go shopping, and not relax.  Yes, I am the one being punished.  What did I do wrong?  My kingdom is crumbling.

Auto-Stick Review

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on March 25, 2007 by Budd Black

I own a Mazda 6 with auto-stick (can be driven as a stick shift or an automatic).  Today after owning it for two years, I finally had the urge to drive a stick.  No, urge isn't strong enough.  My body ached to become one with the vehicle.  So, I slid the selector over to manual.

I have driven the 6 in manual mode before, especially right after I got it.  But, it was always out of curiosity or novelty that I did so.

Let me tell you that when you want to drive a stick and want to "be" the car, the auto-stick just doesn't cut it.  There is no clutch and there is no real shifting.  You don't even have to take your foot off of the gas.  Tapping the shifter up or down is really lame.  The car will actually downshif on its own.  I felt more disconnected from the car than anything.

If the urge is still there tomorrow, I think I may go to the Mazda dealership and test drive a 3 manual.  Sticks suck in traffic but any other time they are driving at its best.  The auto-stick is no substitute.

Hmmm.  If a movie is going to call itself science fiction, shouldn't it have science in it. . . somewhere?   I don't know maybe there is science in the movie but the previews don't relate the fact.  The movie is supposed to be about a group from Earth that sets out to re-ignite the Sun.

Problem number one.  The Sun is not on fire.  You can't just throw a match on it.

Problem number two.  Our sun will, slowly over the next few billion years, turn into a red giant.  This will destroy the ability of the Earth to support life, if not destroy the Earth completely.

Basically the sun just can't go out.  Even if it did, we couldn't "light it back up again."  The concept of this movie is silly at best.

All I have seen are previews, so if I have some plot point wrong, let me know.
