My Magical Urinal Shirt

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on March 31, 2009 by Budd Black

I have this black Perry Ellis shirt that drives the auto sensors on the urnials crazy.  I guess it absorbs the entire lazer and doesn't bounce any of it back because the urinals will flush constantly on days that I wear it.  I wonder if people think I am a crazy serial flusher when I wear this shirt.

In August of 2008 I entered a contest at The York Emporium.  The rules were simple.  Write a short story, one act play, or poem with the theme and title of Yesterday I Will.  So I threw together a a short story attached my $5 entry fee and waited.  Today I got an email from them saying that my story was one of twenty five that got selected to be in the anthology.  I won't get any royalties from book sales and it isn't getting a huge release or anything, but it will be carried at the online book sellers and at some chain stores in PA.  The story I wrote isn't an example of my best work, you will have to judge if it is any good or not.  The book will release on April 4th and should be available at amazon the following week.  My prize is a complimentary copy of my book.  I will let everyone know when it is available online.

Who knows maybe some screenwriter will read the story like the plot and it will be optioned as a movie and I will make lots of money off of the deal.  Anything can happen.

My story is about a man that starts living his life backwards.  Every morning when he wakes up, it is the day before.  So he is able to relive every day of his life and maybe do somethings differently.  Is he crazy?  Will the changes that he make matter? Find out in your copy of Yesterday I Will.

I Am Coming For You Now, Ashli

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on March 25, 2009 by Budd Black

Last night I got two stripes on my belt.  I now out rank my four year old daughter, Ally.  The two stripes I have let me know that it won't be long before I test to get my green belt.  Unfortunatly, Ashli is really close to getting her blue belt. So I will have to work twice as hard as her to catch her.

Hey Ashli,  you hear that?  Those are footsteps.  My footsteps.  Are they getting closer?

The Culling

We are rearranging some things in our house and it looks like there won't be limitless storage for my library or my comic book collection.  I have gone through and seperated all of the books that I want to keep.  Any book that I thought a friend would enjoy, I gave to them.  I will try and sell the rest of the books on Amazon or Craigslist.  I now have a little over 50% of the original pile.  My comics are a different story.  It will take a long time to go through them and then it is silly to remove books to sell because the current comic market isn't so hot.  I will probably want to keep anything worth any money anyways.  I will have to sell them in lots for cheap.

I seriously need a bigger house with a room for just my stuff.

I mean, I live here, so yeah

Combo's pretzel snacks has ranked Nashville the number 1 manliest city in America.  Yeah thats right.  I did that.  I had enough manly alone to keep those other cities at bay for days.  We may be ranked near the bottom of every other list, but the Manly ranking is a step in the right direction.  Eat your greens, other cities,  they will put hair on your chest.

Back in the Saddle Again

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on March 11, 2009 by Budd Black

I started Tae Kwon Do this month.  I had previously trained at Korean Martial Arts and Fitness in Manhattan KS in 1998.  Both of my daughters take TKD, we have just paid off the car, I have a love for the fighting arts, and I have something I am working on that is martial arts and writing related, so I thought there is no better time to start back.  Of course my wrist isn't 100% yet, but still, no better time.

My first class was last Tuesday and boy am I out of shape.  Add to this the Martial Arts Fitness Initiative I started here at work and I have been sore for the past two weeks.  I signed up for my classes at U.S. Tae Kwon Do Academy, the same place the girls take their classes.  I know the teachers, I know the students, and the facility is excellent.  They provide childcare while you are training and offer 4 nights of training per week.  After evaluating me, they accepted the orange belt that I had earned 11 years prior at a school half way across the country.

The great thing about class is that I feel great afterwards.  I come home and don't really want to sit down and relax but to get things done.  The class is exhausting, but by the time I get home I popping with energy again.  My long term goal for this will be to get my black belt.  My short term goal will be to outrank my oldest.  She is a green belt pretty close to testing for her blue belt.
