The Uncanny X-Flus

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on April 30, 2009 by Budd Black

In a world that hates and fears them, these mutant strains are doing there best to stop the brotherhood of white blood cells.  This group led by mad professor X started off as normal flu viruses but their mutations manifested at puberty.  The team consist of Cyclops, a one eyed foe that spreads sheep flu,  Univ. of Phoenix, who spread the bird flu, Iceman, who only spread a common cold (this weakens the brotherhood of white blood cells), Beast, who spreads any number of animal flus, and finally of Angel, who spreads the biblical plagues.

Comming this summer, the Uncanny X-Flus get a new member.  Meet poor razorback who was cast out by society and now spreads an airborn swine flu.  Will he be the key that finally gives the X-Flus the edge over the Brotherhood of White Blood Cells?  Pick up issue #162 to find out.

Never trust a grown person that wears velcro shoes.  The elderly are exempt of course, but they have their own set of trust rules.

ZOMBIE

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on April 28, 2009 by Budd Black

Sunday, I volunteered as an extra for a super low budget zombie movie called Dead Start.  I showed up at 7AM and had my makeup done by about 10AM.  I would say that everyone was in makeup by 11AM.  So we sat around in the sun waiting for the zombie horde scene while they filmed other scenes.  A pizza place donated 25 pizzas but there were  people that showed up as exras and people were grabbing two slices, so that didn't feed many people.  Around 2pm, the hundred or so people that hadn't given up and gone home, finally filmed the zombie horde scene.  I received two bottles of water and a sunburn for my troubles.  I guess I will buy the DVD when it comes out and see if I can locate myself.  There were some strange folk out there and it was a great people watching experience.  I also met some pretty cool folks waiting around in line.

The Prestige

The Prestige
Christopher Priest

A guy at work let me borrow this book because he knew that I would like it.  I read it on breaks and lunches when I stayed at my desk.  This book is very good.  I had seen the movie and thought that it would ruin the book for me but it doesn't.  The plots are quite different, go figure.  I would recommend this book to just about anyone.

Camp Copperhead 2009

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on April 20, 2009 by Budd Black

This weekend was a group of my friends annual campout.  We had a good time.  We went to Mammoth Cave, KY and hiked some trails and did the historic tour.  We call ourselves camp copperhead because on the first camping trip we attended a seminar on reptiles in the park.  The guy stated that copperheads were the most common snake in the park and that we had probably passed 10 of them without even knowing it during our days hikes.  This also prompted the camp slogan of, "they're everywhere."  Wouldn't you know, signs at this years campsite said to watch out for copperheads (and rattlesnakes).  All we saw was a large garter snake.

The theme of this years trip was finding hollow earth.  Mammoth Cave is a supposed entrance to this mythical realm and we planned to find it (without exploring the caves on our own or diverging from the group tour).  We did however speculate on why certain parts of the cave were closed off and every passage we didn't go down led to Hollow Earth.

We were rained on Sunday when we were packing up camp, but had great weather otherwise.  I slept with my rain fly off on friday evening and was able to enjoy a very clear and bright night sky.

Green Belt

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on April 16, 2009 by Budd Black

So, Tuesday night I tested for and received my green belt.  For those of you that don't know, having a green belt means that I have to register my hands as weapons in exactly 0 states.  It is still a beginning belt but it is a step towards my goal.  Ashli is still a green belt so I am catching up with her.

Going Camping

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on April 16, 2009 by Budd Black

I will be in Cave City this weekend living in the great outdoors. It is going to be chilly and wet, but I think that is what you have to expect by going camping in April.  It makes the campfire that much more enjoyable.
