Fan?

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on December 3, 2008 by Budd Black

I was told that I was not a fan of BSG because I wasn't super psyched that it was coming back on.  In my defense it has been off the air for like a year now.  When the season ended early it was supposed to be the final season.  Now we have a year long split in the final season.  The show had actually been schizo before that, with some excellent episodes and some really boring filler episodes.

I also get chided for complaining about Heroes.  A show that started out so fun and that has just kind of went in the wrong direction ever since.

This person is also not a fan of Lost (because they killed Mr. Echo), and she criticizes me for watching it.  I will tell you something; everytime I have watched Lost, I have come to work the next day excited, confused, blown away, and have been able to talk about it to people.  Nobody watches Heroes anymore and most people never knew that BSG existed.

Am I a fan?  I say yes, that I like the premises of these shows and I am interested in the development of the characters.  If you want to call me out because I don't like the direction the shows are taking or fail to fall all over myself about a show that is past its prime, that is fine with me.

Maybe I am just a fan of good TV.  Something BSG provides half the time and something that Heroes could accomplish but doesn't.

My Heroes Questions

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , on December 2, 2008 by Budd Black

1.  So in the history of the company, there has only been the two eclipses or are these somehow special eclipses that didn't happen once in twenty years and then happened twice in two years?
2.  If the eclipse is the catalyst that turns on powers (or turns them off) wouldn't Clairebear have a normal immune system?
3.  If Claire is the catalyst then how did the people in the company get their powers before she was born?
4.  If Claire and Adams power is healing wouldn't taking Adams powers be taken just leave him a normal man the same age as when the power manifested?
5.  If taking Adams powers means that his cells suddenly gain their true age wouldn't Claire's cells gain all those injuries that she has endured?
6.  If this eclipse gives and takes powers, wouldn't their be others on the alternating pattern?
7.  Where are these new issues of 9th wonder coming from? this one was kinda answered.
8.  How does gaining super speed cure cerebral palsy, I mean wouldn't she just become a super fast person with a debilitating condition?
9.  How was there an eclipse in Japan and the United States at the same time?
10.  Eclipses don't usually last that long, do they?
11.  If there is a part of the brain that causes the healing and you kill the brain for however long, isn't that game over?
12.  Is time travel causal or isn't it?  Hiro goes back in time creating the myth he worships and the person that brings the company together.  Peter comes back from the future to change what his present is like.  Peter is using Hiro's power so, it isn't like one has causal powers and the other doesn't.
13.  Why does child Hiro have better control over his powers that adult Hiro?
14.  Why does Sylar Make a cereal bowl out of Veronica Mars' head if he already has her power.

Okay, I know I haven't seen everything I have wanted to yet, and that tonight is the office, but I think I can assess some new shows for everyone.

Bionic Woman – I almost turned it off, the acting and dialog's were that bad.  Special effects were only a little better.  Why on earth would someone be pissed off that their life and way of life had been saved?  "You almost died.  We had to amputate your arm and your legs.  Did you want to be in a motorized wheel chair?  Because, we can take back all the bionic stuff."  Why didn't Starbuck get the lead?  She is a way better actress.

Journeyman – I liked this more than I thought I would.  It channels The Time Traveler's Wife a bit, but that isn't really a bad thing.  The jury is still out.  I don't really like formulaic shows though.  If it becomes a save a person a week type show, I think I will just watch Quantum Leap reruns.

Prison Break – They are just going to put Scofield in multiple prisons and have him escape from them every season.  The show has always been ridiculous and this year doesn't look to change the formula.

Heroes -  New plots abound.  My question is still what happened to Sylar.

Chuck -I thought this show was going to suck, but it doesn't.  It rocks.  It is witty and charming.   You can't help but like Chuck and hate Captain Awesome.

Kid Nation -  The premise of this show was supposed to be about how kids would run the world if they were in charge.  Unfortunately this is restrained by the amount of rules imposed on them.  They have to be on teams, they have to compete in a challenge, and said challenge dictates a class structure.  The class structure has the upper class get paid the most for doing nothing.  They don't even allow a free market on the show.  Last night they did kill some chickens; that was pretty cool.

The Ultimate Fighter – Same show, different weight class.  I already hate several people on the show.  This show perpetuates the stereotype that all fighters are idiots.

I have not seen Reaper yet.

Wow, summer is upon us.  That means time to catch up on stuff I DVR'd like House, Painkiller Jane,  Smallville, and the Tudors.

To wrap up the tv season: Lost rocked, Heroes did too.  Supernatural started slow but knocked it out of the park.  Prison Break (huge in Korea now for some reason) was circling the shark tank on the motorcycle, but they have been doing that from the beginning.  Everything else that was good got cancelled.  Jericho was brought back thanks to some fan sending the studio nuts.  I hear they are trying this trick with Veronica Mars using Mars bars.

Summer seasons are now showing new programming.

Here is what I will likely watch:

Last Comic Standing

Hell's Kitchen

Who Wants to Be a Superhero

Dr. Who

Drive (final two episodes)

I would watch 4400 but they need to have a marathon that I could see the entire 2nd and 3rd seasons in order to catch up.

I will also probably finish up The Prisoner Series that I have borrowed for quite too long.

Heroes Spin-offs

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on May 16, 2007 by Budd Black

Since they are spining off a show from Heroes, I though I would add some more spin-off ideas.

It's Parkman:  A 30min sitcom about Matt Parkman's life with the ability to read minds.  It could have a really cheesy 50's sitcom theme song,  with the ending going, "It's Parkman! yeah!", and a laugh track that laughs at things like, "you don't know it, but I am sleeping with your wife."  It would have to take place at a later time so he could have two teenage kids, leading to all kinds of kooky fun.

Time Jumper Hiro:  This would be a show about a man that travels through the past uncontrollably putting things right that once went wrong, hoping that his next time jump will be the time jump home.

Not so much a spin-off but:  Friday night lights gets Clairebear.  Bennett forced to move after the death of his bosses moves to the town of friday night lights and claire has to compete to get on the cheerleading squad, date the quarterback, and adjust to a new school.

If you have any ideas feel free to share.  I will send them to NBC for you.

Drive- *CANCELED*  That is right, the show was canceled by Fox.  This show has been shown exactly two times at its time slot.  The show isn't bad.  It isn't ground breaking TV but it was entertaining.  Regardless of how good House is, new episodes of Drive are way better than reruns of House.  I don't think Fox was ever behind the show in the first place.  They only have two episodes to show that are un-aired.  What kind of commitment is 6 episodes.  Instead of showing the final two episodes on TV you will have to watch them through the Drive myspace page this summer.  Let me tell you, someone will rip them and I will DL them because the Fox page sucks.  The previews for this show were less than inspiring.  I saw them and thought that the show would be ridiculous, but I by chance caught part of the two hour premiere and the third episode.  I liked it.  DID YOU HERE ME FOX, YOUR PREVIEWS MADE ME NOT WANT TO WATCH A SHOW THAT I ENDED UP LIKING.

Lost-Back to old form.  I now remember why I liked it in the first place.

The Ultimate Fighter-  A team rallies around in support as another fighter cries.  This guy was blubbering.  Sure he lost, but no need to cry because he was a dummy.

The Office-Creed is hilarious.  Michael is an idiot.  Kelly stole the show.

Scrubs-  Hilarious as ever.  They moved it so I have to watch 30 rock.  That show grows on you.  now they just need to cancel ER.

Smallville- I have kind of given up on this show.

Supernatural-I haven't watched this weeks episode yet, but last weeks was really good and scary enough that my wife left the room.

Veronica Mars- Where are you?!?

Heroes- I am actually looking forward to the future episode.  This show continues to get better and better.

The IFL on UPN (or whatever it is they call that network), isn't bad.  It isn't the UFC, but it will do.  There seems to be a lack of a serious ground game for most fighters.  If someone goes down, they usually bend over fetally and proceed to get pummeled.

Thank God Your Here– was funny for its first episode but the second one fell flat.  The show itself cast normal actors into improv situations.  The hilarity of the episodes will depend on the ability of the person on stage to improv.  Malcolm's Dad (Hal) from Malcolm in the middle was the funniest I have seen so far.  Newman from Seinfeld was a close second.

The Office-Darn you NBC, darn you to heck!  I would like to thank NBC for the numerous commercials letting me know that the office would be starting early and ending late.  I missed the first five minutes and the last ten.  I will have to view it on their website which, I imagine, was there intention.  I didn't even realize that I had missed any of the end until someone at work was talking about it and I was like, "when did that happen."

Scrubs-Goodbye Laverne, you will be missed.  Hello J.D. junior.  One episode was shown out of order or shot out of order because we finally find out what happened to Perry's hair.

The Ultimate Fighter-A guy cries because he can't lose weight.  You will have to scroll down to my sissification post to see my feelings on this.  This season looks to be promising with a bunch of guys with shortman's syndrome.

Heroes-Two more weeks.  Two more long and miserable weeks.  New York is so getting blown up.

Battlestar Gallactica-  As if the second half of this season (minus a few great episodes) wasn't going to drive fans off,  the show isn't coming back for its final season until 2008.  The people over at scifi are about retarded.

Jerricho– tonight we get some answers.  This show has been quite the suprise.

Tuesday TV Talk

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on February 27, 2007 by Budd Black

Heroes – Heroes so rocked last night.  The writers stepped up big time and answered the question about Mr Bennett's alliances and who the Hatian is.  I was very satisfied with the episode and look forward to seeing what happens to Claire and Matt.  In the previews it showed simmone as alive.  What the heck is that about?

BSG – Another filler episode.  It is kind of hard to make a fuel shortage due to a strike seem urgent because of the cylons when it seems that all cylons have been written off the show.  Now it is lost in space with a fleet.  I will be suprised if they tie any part of this episode into any other episode; which is a shame.  With some forethought they could have been foreshadowing it in earlier episodes and could continue it on, but they didn't and they won't.  Look at the refugee storyline, gone.  I was thinking they should send them to work the mining ship.  Two stones, one bird.

Amazing Race -  All Stars?  are you kidding me?

Veronica Mars -  Didn't see that one coming.  Keith being sheriff again could become a little too deus ex machina.

Heroes:  What is in the pink bag?  Claire's adopted mom is in some serious trouble.  Who is the guy with the guns (both muscular and mechanical)?  I think Matt is going to get busted with the diamonds or he is going to try and sell them to this guy named Linderman.  I thought Sylar had the info from the map, isn't that the same info from the list?

BSG:  I so thought Dualla was going to buy it.  It was really just a filler episode (new orleans allegory).  I like that they brought back imaginary Baltar.  Athena is just slipping back in like she didn't try to switch sides.

Scrubs:  Why did she lie to him?  My theory is that she wants someone that can teach the little guy to throw.  I like that Dr. Kelso.

Lost:  oh yeah, lost was on.  I need answers.  I have been patient for almost 3 years, what is the monster?  Tell us who the others are.

The office:  Roy, stay away from Jim's woman.  They may have crossed the line with Michael's cluelessness.  It was just a little too unbelievable.

Cast Linderman and Genre Connections

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , on February 7, 2007 by Budd Black

Since the NBC has not cast Linderman yet, I say we give them some people to call in and read for the part.

Ben Browder is my choice.

This would keep with science fiction connections in the show.  We already have Hiro's Dad from Star Trek, DL was in both Smallville and Buffy, and we can't forget the good doctor.  I am guessing that I am missing some.
